EDUCATION INTERPRETATION SERVICES & SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETING

Our founders, Ben Daniel and Cody Simonsen, both drew upon first-hand experiences
when establishing 5 Star Interpreting with one goal in mind: communication access for all.

There are countless reasons why colleges and other post-secondary institutes find the need for sign language interpreters. Educational institutions of all kinds may have a Deaf student in their college, need a substitute for a staff interpreter, or need to have interpreters on hand for meetings, graduation, and other campus events.

These situations call for special attention to serving the needs of a diverse staff and student population. Interpreters are extremely important members of the educational world, helping to communicate messages accurately and in a way that properly reflects Deaf culture.

While interpreters adhere to a strict code of conduct, sign language interpreters have a framework of flexibility on how to do their job properly. An interpreter has the heavy responsibility of processing language quickly, thinking in English, and matching the phraseology to ASL. This means it’s important to find an interpreter with a high-level of experience and skill to meet the task at hand.

EDUCATION INTERPRETING SERVICES WITH 5 STAR INTERPRETING

The interpreters we work with are experienced in providing comprehensive educational interpreting services for a wide variety of occasions. They offer the same consistent rapport with those they’re interpreting for, so that you and Deaf clients that you work with will never feel uneasy about working with their interpreter. We coordinate interpreting services for all kinds of occasions in any environment, including:

WHAT SETS US APART FROM THE REST?

One of the most important aspects that sets 5 Star Interpreting apart from other options is the fact that we are Deaf and interpreter owned and operated. We are run by the Deaf community, for the Deaf community — meaning we understand the nuances and unique needs of Deaf individuals because we live and breathe it every day.

By using our ASL interpreters, we guarantee that your deaf students and faculty will be able to communicate just as effectively as everyone else in the room. Founders Ben Daniel and Cody Simonsen are on a mission to help bridge the gap between those that don’t know sign language and the Deaf individuals that they come into contact with, so your audience will feel at ease with someone who understands their unique needs. If you are located in Utah or Illinois, and are looking for an interpreter to help with your educational interpreter needs, we’re ready to support your educational goals. 5 Star Interpreting has been the primary provider of American Sign Language - English interpretation for The Sundance Film Festival for the past two years. Their services have been absolutely top notch. The coordination of an exhibition to this scale was eased knowing that 5 Star would take the care to understand our event spaces, screenings, content, clients, etc. to consider the right interpreter for the job. We're proud to work with a Utah local Deaf/CODA owned business that utilizes both the consumer and interpreter perspective throughout all aspects of their operations. Extra big shoutout/referral for Nathan Suitter, who's skill and professionalism has made him our interpreter of choice. Smiles.

Our agency had a client who requested an ASL interpreter for a meeting so I reached out to 5 Star Interpreting. They were very quick to respond, easy to schedule with and their prices are great. The interpreter they sent was professional and friendly and it was a great experience. We will be using them again.

I work in Texas and had to plan to get ASL interpreters on-site for a Utah-based event this year, although I've never worked with ASL interpreters before. Cody and his team at 5 Star were an absolute pleasure to work with. Highly responsive, quick to help out and explain the different nuances of ASL to a non-signer (without making me feel like an idiot), and extremely professional and helpful. They thought of everything: from their travel, to the interpreter's on-site meals, to their attire, and even convenience of payment after the event. I would highly recommend them if you're looking for a team that will work seamlessly with your event and provide a high-quality interpreting experience with a low-hassle and clearly communicated set-up.
